LB# 10 Demonstrations in Teaching

Demonstrations are very useful in teaching because it's what makes the student interested in knowing the lesson more. It is what a teacher does when she/he is showing the student how a particular thing or work is done. There are guiding principles that must be observed in using demonstrations by Edgar Dale and they are as follows: First, establish rapport; this is when a teacher makes the students at ease and stimulate their interest so that their focus will be on the teacher only. Second is avoiding the COIK fallacy (Clear Only If Known). This means that the teacher should always assume that the students know nothing about the subject. And the last one is Watching for Key points. This is where the learners face the stumbling blocks or the things that gives them difficulty to understand and it's where the teacher highlights a particular point and make it clearer for the students to understand.
